Ok, so I'm editing my W.I.P and trying to decide if a "book doctor" is necessary. Do I get a critique of my M.S. and/or line-editing? Is that really necessary before querying agents or can I just do the best I can and go with it? Has anyone used a book doctor or editing service before? If so, were you pleased with the results?

Do not get a book doctor. There may be some good ones out there, but a lot of them are scams, and will charge you a lot of money for nothing more than a proofreading session. I've heard many agents say that the line "this manuscript has been professionally edited" is a huge red flag of an amateur. It's totally not necessary.
Better would be to join groups and find a critique partner. That's what I've always done. There are lots of children's writer's groups out there. Good luck!
